C Language

Among various computer programming languages available today, C programming language is a high level programming language, which was developed by Dennis Ritchie at Bell Laboratories. First, it was only intended to run on a PDP-11, a series of minicomputers, with UNIX operating system.

But, it became highly compatible with the MS-DOS operating system on the IBM PC. This made C programming language as a popular programming language of that time. IBM PC was the popular PC manufacturer of that time.

Due to its simplicity and easy in writing, C is the only high level languages, which is still available in a new coming systems, that includes minicomputer, microcomputers and Mainframe computers.

Although it is a high-level language, C language is much closer to assembly language. One can integrate assembly language functionalities in the program itself. This association to assembly level language allows the programmers to write the programs, which can access computer hardware resources such as printer, keyboard, hard disk, scanner, mouse etc., directly without any difficulty.

Due to this, various computer hardware manufacturers use this language to write various device driver softwares for their newly built hardware devices. The basic language syntax of C Language has been further used by C++, Visual C++, JAVA, C#.
